This is the outdoor kitchen and bath, with the two grilling stations behind me on the deck. It is very handy for washing the cider bottles and other orchard gear that goes into keeping the cider gear clean. It has served me well as a shaving spot. Behind the yellow 'baby' corrugated steel wall is the shower. The sign directs the novice to the appropriate spot for cleaning the most common fauna that are in need of cleaning here.
An inside view of the shower. It has a tankless hot water heater a few feet away and great pressure.
Here you can get a sense of how close the garden is in the background. The white framed enclosure in the center houses the high bush blueberries and strawberries. I have just picked a quart of the blueberries and each week the strawberries have produced at least six quarts, which we eat every morning on the muesli with home made yogurt.
This afternoon Gregg took me back up the Otaki River to tramp upstream. Here you can see the results of the frequent 'slips' (landslide) which make it a bit touchy in spots to cross as they tend to remain unstable with long drops below to the river. But have no fear... there is plenty of vegetation to grab for security...
Some slips are bigger than others.
Where the land has not given way there is a beautiful green canopy that sometimes is at eye level.
This backlit fern is usually only seen close to its hosting ground source, but here it appears to be reaching for more light.
There are very rich patterns in the fern world here. Sometimes made even richer for the contrasts of lighting.
